Vacuum Drying Chambers for Flammable Solvents
In its VDL series, BINDER has developed special vacuum drying chambers for flammable solvents. These innovative drying chambers combine effective drying with a sophisticated safety concept. Drying is taken care of quickly and without residues, scaling, or oxidation.
Safety is guaranteed by the vacuum drying chambers for flammable solvents first and foremost by their explosion-proof interior. Adjustment without overshooting also provides maximum protection for samples, while a unique safety concept is in place where operation is concerned. The design and innovative equipment comply with ATEX II 2/3/- G standards.
BINDER Vacuum Drying Chambers for Quick Drying and Quality That Lasts
As well as boasting high levels of safety, the drying chambers impress with their quick drying process. Heat is transferred to the sample directly using heat conductor plates, and the patented APT.line™ preheating chamber technology makes sure that sample drying is homogeneous across the entire usable space. Quick, gentle, and free from condensation, drying takes place on aluminum expansion racks that can be flexibly adjusted.
BINDER vacuum drying chambers for flammable solvents cover a temperature range of between 8 °C and 110 °C. Alongside a quick drying process and high levels of process reliability, the chambers are also quick and easy to clean thanks to the smooth inner chamber with rounded corners, the stainless steel interior coating, and the removable racks.
With vacuum drying chambers for flammable solvents from BINDER, performance, quality, and safety go hand in hand, meaning operation is safe and simple for you and optimum results are guaranteed.

Attension® offers leading contact angle and surface tension solutions for industrial quality control and R&D as well as for academic research. The core of Attension solutions is a combination of easy-to-use, smart instrumentation with broad surface science capabilities.
Measurements
- Static contact angle
- Dynamic contact angle
- Roll-off angle
- Surface free energy (SFE)
- Surface tension
- Interfacial tension
- Batch contact angle
- Roughness corrected contact angle
- Interfacial rheology (viscoelasticity)
Technology
An optical tensiometer records drop images and analyzes the drop shape automatically. The drop shape is a function of the surface tension of the liquid, gravity and the density. On a solid, the drop shape and the contact angle also depends on the properties of the solid (e.g. surface free energy, topography). The captured image is analyzed with a drop profile fitting method in order to determine contact angle and surface tension. Surface free energy can be calculated by performing contact angle measurements with several known liquids.
As an optical method, the measurement precision of optical tensiometers depends on the quality of the pictures and the analysis software. Attension Optical Tensiometers utilize a high quality monochromatic cold LED light source to minimize undesirable sample evaporation. Image quality is guaranteed by a high-resolution digital camera, quality optics and the accuracy of the drop fitting method.

The NANO-flex® II 180° DLS system measures particle size distributions of suspensions and emulsions in the range of 0.3 nm to 10 μm and concentrations up to 40 % by volume. The principle of heterodyne 180° backscattering applied here is characterized by its high selectivity in the nm range and a very high resolution; it is also suitable for samples with a wide or multi-modal size distribution. Due to the low penetration depth of the laser light, samples of high concentration are measured without disturbing multiple scattering. Compared to cuvette based systems, many samples can be measured without dilution in original concentration. The dip-in probe used in the NANO-flex® II has a diameter of 5.5 mm and allows a wide range of applications. In conjunction with the IPAS extension, particle size distributions can be measured inline. In combination with the Stabino® II, stability ranges and critical coagulation points can be determined.

Clear 3D Cell Culture Models With Minimal Changes to Morphology and Without Compromising Sensitivity
Despite the growing relevance of 3D cell culture as a research model, imaging techniques used to characterize these models are highly limited. Due to the thickness and opacity of 3D cellular structures, most current imaging technologies cannot penetrate to the center of the tissues, resulting in only the outer 2 to 3 layers of cells being detected. This causes the dark centers often seen in images of 3D cell culture models, which proves highly problematic for accurate analysis as these outer cells are most exposed to compounds, nutrients and oxygen and thus do not reflect the entire cell population.
Corning now offers 3D Clear Tissue Clearing reagent that can be used in a tissue clearing technique, designed specifically to support imaging for 3D cell culture models and plate-based high throughput processing. When paired with fluorescent labeling (e.g., fluorescent protein, immunofluorescence, chemical dyes) and high content confocal microscopy, Corning 3D Clear reagent allows for complete 3D cell culture model characterization and more accurate drug screening.

With L-glutamine Leibovitz’s L15 medium was originally developed without a sodium bicaronate buffer system for use in non-CO2 equilibrated environments. It is buffered by phosphates and the amino acid L-arginine, along with L-histidine and L-cysteine. The formation of acid metabolite byproducts is prevented by replacing glucose with galactose and sodium pyruvate. Examples of usage include the propagation of HEP-2, monkey kidney cells and primary explants of embryonic and adult human tissue. Leibovitz’s L-15 supports established cell lines as well as primary explants of embryonic and adult human tissue.
